About Us
Welcome to our church! Whether this is your first visit or you've called this place home for a while, we are so glad you found us. Our story is a testament to God’s faithfulness, and we believe it will encourage you as you walk with Him.
In the spring of 1998, my wife and I felt a clear calling from God to leave a thriving church in Rochester, NY, and move to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We left behind everything familiar, trusting that God had a bigger plan. Our journey began with simple gatherings in our home, where we prayed, studied the Bible, and shared meals together. Through the local Christian radio station, we were blessed with the opportunity to air a daily program called "Comfort Ye My People," and soon, God began to move in powerful ways. His presence filled the airwaves, and hearts were touched across the island.
Before long, a group of believers began to meet regularly for worship, prayer, Bible teaching, and fellowship. After a year of growth, an incredible opportunity arose. A local pastor reached out to me during one of our Bible studies and asked if I would consider taking over his congregation and building. After much prayer and seeking God's guidance, we decided to share the building until they could find a new pastor. This marked the beginning of our church family, and shortly after, we relocated to 122 Condondo Avenue in Santurce, PR. We met there on Sunday afternoons for about a year but quickly outgrew the space.
In March 2000, God opened the door for us to lease a 24,000 sq. ft. space in Los Jardines shopping center, a local mall, where we’ve been gathering ever since. Over the years, God has continued to lead and grow this church, and we are thankful for the opportunity to continue sharing His love with our community.
However, in 2012, my precious wife developed adult asthma, and after two hospitalizations, we were advised by doctors to leave the island due to the air quality. A natural phenomenon known as the Saharan Desert Sands caused fine particles, including dust and sand from the Sahara Desert in Africa, to be carried across the Caribbean, causing respiratory issues for many people on the island. After much prayer and consideration, we made the difficult decision to leave Puerto Rico in 2012 and trust God with the next steps. We left the church in the capable hands of our wonderful staff, including Pastor Jason, who had become the senior pastor.
We relocated to the high, dry climate of Marietta Hot Springs, California, as recommended by our doctors. Dave Shirley and the staff at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta warmly welcomed us, and I was invited to teach the Pastoral Epistles to students in my first year there. The following year, I taught the Book of Revelation.
In the fall of 2014, after much prayer, my wife and I felt led to relocate back to Rochester, NY—full circle from where we had originally left in 1998. We moved into our RV and were warmly welcomed by Pastor Ray Tompkins and his wife, Margie, who graciously handed us the keys to their church building. In time, a prayer meeting began in our camp area with Tony Zapata, Glenn White, John Cintron, and others. Soon, we started a home Bible study in the house we had purchased, and after five years of growth, we are now meeting in the beautiful chapel at 1274 Penfield Center Rd.
Although Calvary Chapel is a separate church entity from ours, we remain deeply committed to prayer and supporting our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico and around the world.
Today, we meet in Penfield, NY, at 1274 Penfield Center Rd. 14526. Our Sunday services are at 9:30 AM, and we also gather on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Whether you are a seasoned believer or someone just starting to explore faith, we welcome you with open arms.
We believe that our mission is simple: to know the Lord Jesus Christ deeply, to live as His church, and to make the world a better place for Him. We are His children, and it is our joy to walk with Him and invite others to join us on this journey.
Thank you for visiting our website. We are excited that you are here, and we pray that your time with us will be a blessing to you.
